Grad Student/Postdoc Fellowship Writing Workshop on Saturday

On Saturday, Feb. 5,  doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in the sciences are invited to take part in a fellowship planning expo from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Paul D. Coverdell Center Auditorium (Room 175).  The workshop, titled “Greed is Good: The young scientist’s plan to professional independence,”  is sponsored by the the BHSI and Graduate Students and Postdocs in Sciences.

Topics will include:

  • Why pursue your own research and fellowship funding?
  • What federal agencies and foundations provide fellowship funding?
  • What are the components of a fellowship application?
  • What is the review process for an application?
  • What happens after you receive a score?

UGA faculty with experience reviewing federal grant and fellowship applications will offer their insights in at the workshop.  Speakers will include David Lee, Ph.D., Vice President for Research; Anna Karls, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator, Microbiology; Silvia Moreno, Ph.D., Professor, Cell Biology; and Margie Lee, DVM, Ph.D.
