Georgia CTSA Renewal

Call for Proposals (LOI Due Tuesday, September 2, by 5 pm)

The Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance (CTSA), an NIH-funded alliance of The University of Georgia, Emory University, The Georgia Institute of Technology, and Morehouse School of Medicine, is preparing for the submission of the funding renewal application.

In this renewal, the emphasis is on translational science which the National Center for Clinical and Translational Science defines as rethinking the process of turning observations in the laboratory, clinic and community into interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public — from diagnostics and therapeutics to medical procedures and behavioral changes. Thus, transformational science includes scientific, operational, financial and administrative innovations that transform the way that research is done, making it faster, more efficient, and more impactful. This emphasis creates interesting opportunities for new collaborations related to CTSA funding.

There are three opportunities for funding proposals.

  • Element E: A clinical trial that addresses a truly significant challenge in clinical and translational science (transforming the way that research is done) rather than pure basic discovery research. The maximum budget for an Element E submission is $500,000 per year for 2 to 3 years.
  • RC2 Specialized Innovation Program: Funding that supports resources, activities, expertise, and novel approaches to enhance the development and demonstration activities within the Georgia CTSA hub. For an RC2, the maximum budget is $500,000 per year direct costs for 5 years
  • R25 Research Education Grant: Funding that supports educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of the next generation of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical researchers with an emphasis on novel research experiences that support the study of translation with an emphasis on common patterns across diseases. For an R25, the maximum budget is $100,000 per year for 5 years.

A one-page letter of intent is due by Tuesday, September 2. The full call with links to the opportunities can be found below. Note that you do not necessarily need to have all collaborators identified to submit the LOI. You can focus on the idea and the collaborators needed. There will be time between the LOI and full proposal to identify specifics.

BTSI, the Institute that houses the CTSA grant at UGA, is offering several opportunities to support you in the process of preparing the LOI with this tight deadline.
