The UGA Graduate Students and Postdocs in Science (GSPS) held their fourth annual Science Career Symposium on December 2 at the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center. The free event featured speakers who have applied their doctoral degrees in science and engineering towards careers outside of the university setting.

Created in early 2009, GSPS provides a forum for graduate students and postdoctoral associates at UGA to prepare for science careers through professional development and networking opportunities. The organization has 314 members representing 30 departments and seven schools/colleges at UGA. In addition to its annual research day, GSPS organizes an yearly career symposium and hosts regular open forums addressing topics ranging from balancing family and career goals to finding postdoctoral fellowships.
The GSPS Science Career Symposium sponsors include the Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute, UGA Graduate School, Office of the Vice President for Research, Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases, Institute of Behavior Research and the departments of biochemistry and molecular biology, biological and agricultural engineering, chemistry, food sciences and technology, geology, marine sciences, microbiology, pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences, infectious diseases, plant biology, plant pathology, psychology and cell biology.
Additional sponsors of note include the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences, Chemistry Graduate Student Organization, the Microbiology Graduate Student Association, the Marine Sciences Graduate Student Association, and the UGA Chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
