Sciolino receives UGA Grad School dissertation fellowship

Natale Sciolino was recently selected for a UGA Graduate School Dissertation Completion Award for 2013-14. These competitive doctoral assistantships are awarded to exceptional doctoral students in their final year of study, and allow the student to devote time to the completion of their dissertation.

Sciolino, who works in the laboratory of psychology professor Phil Holmes, is interested in the neurobiological basis for mental disorders. For her dissertation work, she is examining how exercise may require galanin in the brain to be protective against stress and the release of an adrenaline-like compound called norepinephrine.
