EID Lecture/Roundtable – Evolutionary Ecology Meets Immunology
Ecological physiologist Lynn “Marty” Martin, PhD, is the invited guest speaker for a seminar and roundtable to be held March 8th – 9th as a part of the Ecology of Infectious Disease (EID) Lecture Series.
On March 8th, Martin, an assistant professor in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of South Florida, will lecture on “Physiology Integration and Phenotypic Variation in Vertebrates” from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m in Ecology Building Auditorium.
On March 9th, Martin will lead a roundtable discussion with UGA faculty addressing the topic, “Evolutionary Ecology Meets Immunology” from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Room 175 of the Paul D. Coverdell Center. UGA panelists include Don Estes, professor, infectious diseases; Julie Moore, professor, infectious diseases; Kristen Navara, assistant professor, poultry science; and Mike Strand, Distinguished Research Professor,entomology.
This EID Lecture and Roundtable is sponsored by the Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute and Odum School of Ecology.
Disease ecology focuses on understanding how infectious diseases spread through and impact host populations and how hosts and pathogens react and evolve in response to one another. The purpose of the lecture series and the Disease Ecology Initiative is to identify areas of strength and collaborative potential in this field within the UGA research community, as well as expand connections with other regional research institutions.
