GSPS to hold speed networking event Thursday, Jan. 26

On Thursday, January 26, the UGA Graduate Students and Postdocs in Science (GSPS) will hold a speed networking event at The Max (243 W. Washington St.) in downtown Athens, Ga., beginning at 5:00 p.m.
This professional development event is designed to help graduate students, postdocs, and other members of the UGA research community get to know each other and identify possible collaborations.
GSPS Speed Networking provides a great opportunity for first-year graduate students and new postdocs to meet with current UGA graduate students and postdocs in the sciences, as well improve the communication skills necessary to succeed in an academic environment. Similar to a “speed dating for scientists,” attendees will be split into pairs and have about five minutes to introduce each other and discuss their research.
“As scientists, we are expected to be able to describe our research in a concise manner at meetings, especially during poster sessions, so this event provides a means for everyone to practice those skills,” said Bradley Tolar, GSPS Chair and one of the event organizers.
The Speed Networking event will wrap up with a mixer for attendees interested in discussing their research further with the people they were able to meet, said Tolar.
Faculty members and staff are also more than welcome to attend.
